History of Jallianwala Bagh Massacre
13th April 1919 was marked as the most tragic day in Indian history
This day was observed as the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, the deadliest situation in Indian history which took place in Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar, in the state of Punjab.
25,000 citizens came together in the evening on 13th April and conducted a protest against laws imposed by Britishers.
The laws like Rowlett Act created social unrest between Indians.
Many Indian freedom fighters were against the Rowlett’s Act imposed by Britishers.
This led to a protest at Jallianwala Bagh, the leader of the protest, Hansraj called everyone for a meeting on 12th April 1919.
The next day, Britishers imposed a curfew as well followed by martial laws at Jallianwala Bagh.
The martial laws imposed by Britishers restricted public gatherings and even restricted all kinds of communication at Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar.
Despite knowing that the protest is peaceful. The colonel Reginald dyer tried dispersing the crowd violently by securing all the exits
This made General Dyer order his troops to fire at all the people gathered inside Jallianwala Bagh indiscriminately. There was only one working exit in Jallianwala Bagh that was blocked out by General Dyer. The other doors of Jallianwala Bagh were too narrow and were closed. The people who had gathered there had no means of escape from the Bagh. Around 600 people were shot dead that day, thousands of people were injured, and most of them were critically injured.
The Jallianwala Bagh Massacre is one of the most barbaric and cold-blooded, cold murder of innocent and unarmed citizens of our country. April 13th is considered one of the darkest days in the freedom struggle.
